Formerly of Battle Creek Died Friday evening July 23, 2010 at Clare Bridge in Portage. Judith was born March 11, 1929 in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, a daughter of Percy and Elizabeth Parker Loud. She had been a Battle Creek resident for many years and was employed as a kindergarten teacher with the Battle Creek Public Schools for 20 years before retiring. She attended Kingswood School Cranbrook and graduated from the University of Michigan in 1950. Judith was involved in many community activities. She was awarded the Junior League Sustainer of the Year Award and the Good Egg Award from Binder Park Zoo, where she was also a docent. She was the first President of the Calhoun County Literacy Council; and was responsible for bringing Barbara Bush as a speaker for the Tri-County area. Judith was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Holt Ackerman in 1981; and a sister, Susan. She is survived by 2 children, Linda Ed Huss Ackerman of Portage and Kyle Cathy Ackerman of Laytonsville, MD; 2 grandchildren, Scott and Dana; a sister, Nancy Richard Kern of Bloomfield Hills, MI; and several nieces and nephews. Private services and burial will be held at a later date. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to your favorite organization in our mother's memory.
