Williams, Joyce C.
of Kalamazoo, Michigan Passed away October 9th, 2012. Joyce was born April 14th, 1924 in Kalamazoo, Michigan; the daughter of Dee and Gertude Nash Williams and had been a resident of Kalamazoo most of her life. Joyce was blessed with a beautiful voice and became a professional singer at the age of nine. She went on to sing on radio, in theaters, in churches and with dance bands of the 1940's era. Her proudest moments were spent as a featured vocalist with the "Roy Williams" band. She entertained our soldiers at Fort Custer, sang at weddings and performed for many private functions. Joyce had a deep faith in God, was baptized in the Disciples of Christ church and later became a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Kalamazoo. She was employed for years as Office Manager for Bingham Roller Company and then joined Paw Paw Wine Distributors, where she retired in 1988. She was preceded in death by her parents, two beloved brothers; Captain Roy A. Williams and Paul E. Williams. Other surviving family members include two nephews: Timothy P. Williams, Clermont, FL. and Terry R. Williams Marsha Kalamazoo, MI. Her niece: Penny A. Williams, Farwell, MI., Two great nephews and nieces: Aaron R. Williams JoLinda Kalamazoo, MI., Eric A. Williams, Chicago, IL., Amanda L Brown Pierre Orlando FL., and Megan Jeremy Gulledge U.S.A.F. Joyce was blessed with loving friends whom she considered to be her second family. They included Tom and Nancy Wilson, Wanda and Daryl Miller & family, and Roy W. and Deidre Freas & family. She also had a deep love for her toy poodles "Jamie" and "Candi Girl." In accordance with Joyce's wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will take place at Joyce's home at 2924 Crestview at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 21, 2012. Friends and neighbors are welcome to attend. A memorial in Joyce's name would be appreciated to Kairo's Dwelling 2945 Gull Road Kalamazoo MI 49048.
