Kalamazoo Mrs. Shafer passed away Sunday afternoon, January 13, 2008 at Borgess Medical Center. She was born August 9, 1926 in Fennimore, WI, the only child of the late William and Minnie Fritz Durkin. On June 19, 1947, she was united in marriage to Calvin Shafer, who preceded her in death on August 17, 1978. Also preceding her in death is 1 son, William Shafer on July 22, 1988. Surviving are 4 children, Diane Shafer of Portage, Phyllis Narlock of Kalamazoo, Calvin Shafer Jr. of Kalamazoo, and Mary Shafer of Kalamazoo; 4 grandchildren, Darren Kim Shafer of Kalamazoo, Calvin Shafer III of Plainwell, Ashley Hubbard of Kalamazoo, and Michael Mullen of Three Rivers; and 2 great-grandchildren, Kylie and Kaitlyn Shafer. Funeral services for Mrs. Shafer will be at 1:00 PM on Thursday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick Street, with Rev. James Dyke officiating. Interment will follow in Grand Prairie Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home.
