Age 81, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2024. Joyce was born in Benton Harbor, Michigan on July 27, 1942, the daughter of the late James E. and Anna Mae (Versaw) Remus.
She graduated from Hartford High School and earned her nursing degree from Bronson School of Nursing. Joyce worked as a registered nurse for many years and retired from Kalamazoo Valley Community College where she was an instructor for the School of Nursing for 23 years. She loved the outdoors and nature, especially spending time camping, birdwatching, biking and snowshoeing. Joyce also liked to quilt and do paper crafting.
She is survived by her siblings, Virginia Johnson, Carol (Larry) Avery and Donald (Nancy) Remus; beloved nieces and nephews, Gregory (Teresa) Johnson, Heather Thorson, Benjamin (Pamm) Avery, Rebekah (Steve Trovatore) Branch, Jonathan Avery, Sarah (Matthew) Stevenson and James (Merissa) Remus; as well as 19 great-nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 22, 2024 at 2:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church of Kalamazoo, 321 South St., Kalamazoo, MI 49007, with the Revs. Amber Nettleton and Larry Avery officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church or Kalamazoo Valley Community College Foundation.
