Joseph Derek Turner

Passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, June 18, 2019 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family. Derek was born February 13, 1950 in Pontiac, MI the son of Curry and Dorothy (Richardson) Turner.
Derek was a dedicated Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist with Kalamazoo Anesthesiology PC and recently retired after 27 years. He made a lifelong impression on his coworkers and patients with his sarcastic and witty sense of humor. He was passionate about his work and formed many strong friendships during his time there. He loved being with his four children and could always be found with a pet at his side, most recently, his beloved cat, Pickle. On warm summer days you could find him mowing the lawn and finding tree limbs to unnecessarily cut down. He was a man with simple tastes and a generous heart; he was always ready to help a friend or neighbor in need.
He is survived by his children, Hannah Turner, Ian Turner, Abraham Turner, Samantha Turner; his loving former wife, Julia Karnemaat; his mother, Dorothy Turner; sister, Sharon (John) Millerwise; and several nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place and a private family gathering will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to The National Park Conservation Association or a memorial of your choice.
