Jolene Kay Kennedy (Rigg), 73, of Kalamazoo, passed away peacefully at home with her beloved husband, Pat, by her side on July 14, 2023, following a brief illness. She was born in Saginaw on August 15th, 1949, to Robert and June (Wilbur) Rigg.
Jolene graduated from Vassar High School in 1967. She was a member of the National Honors Society, Vassar High School Marching Band, The Thespian Society, Girl Scouts, and 4-H. Following high school, she attended Ferris State University. Jolene’s true calling was being a wife, mother, and grandmother, ensuring her family was cared for. She married Pat on August 31st, 1968, in Vassar. Their 54-year marriage took them to Thailand, Frankenmuth, East Lansing, Pottersville, NJ, and spending winters the past 20 years in Venice, FL.
Among her many interests, she was an active church member and enjoyed spending quiet moments reading her Bible and devotions. Jolene and a close friend, Nancy VanDam, were long-time members of the Paint Patches Organization of Kalamazoo. She enjoyed golfing with her friends, taking family vacations, and traveling with her group of friends, The Legends. Jolene especially enjoyed spending time with her cherished grandchildren.
Jolene is survived by her husband Patrick, her sister Susan (Rigg) Marcy, her brother Jim (Dee) Rigg, her two children Lisa (Todd) Brodie and Michael (Courtney) Kennedy, and her five grandchildren Olivia Brodie, Nolan Brodie, William Brodie, Graham Kennedy, and Claire Kennedy.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 1st at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, 7211 Oakland Drive, Portage, with Pastor Paul Naumann officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A luncheon will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of Jolene may be made to The Kalamazoo Gospel Ministries, 448 North Burdick St., Kalamazoo, MI 49007, and Centrica Hospice Care, 7100 Stadium Dr., Kalamazoo, MI 49009.
