VELD, John C., Sr.
Kalamazoo On Thursday, January 29, 2009, John went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was born April 14, 1920 in Kalamazoo, a son of Ralph and Helena DeKonning Veld and was a lifelong resident of Kalamazoo. John graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School, was a self employed builder for 34 years and served his country in the United States Army-Air Corps during WW II. John was a member of Third Reformed Church for many years, where he served in many capacities. He was also very involved in Christian Ministry in Campus Crusade for Christ for 34 years and mentored seminarians. John was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Gertrude Kuikman. On October 23, 1941, he married Mary Jane Smith, who survives. He is also survived by their children, Lana Gerald Loedeman and John, Jr. Marian Veld of Kalamazoo; grandchildren, James Becki Loedeman, Jane Steve Timmerman Loedeman, Joseph Loedeman, Joseph and Joshua Veld; great grandchildren, Micheal, Quinn and Robert Loedeman; a brother, Ralph Veld of Kalamazoo; nieces and nephews. Following a private family committal, a Service of Celebration for John's life will be held at 1:00 PM Monday in the Third Reformed Church, 2345 N. 10th St. with Rev. Dr. Jeff Porte and Rev. Bill Crawford officiating. The family will receive friends at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Third Reformed Church, Campus Crusade for Christ, International or Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan..
