VANDER MEER, John H. "Joe" Kalamazoo John Henry Louis Vander Meer, "Joe", passed away Friday, March 25, 2011 at Rose Arbor Hospice Facility. Joe was born March 5, 1919 in Grand Rapids, a son of Henry and Grace Hesse Vander Meer and had been a resident of Kalamazoo since 1939. He was a member of Hope Reformed Church, where he served as a Deacon and sang in the choir. He served his country during WW II in the United States Army and had been employed by Miller-Davis for 39 years, retiring as a construction superintendant. On October 31, 1942, he married Maxine Koning, who preceded him in death on February 14, 2010. He was also preceded by his parents and a sister, Anne Longstreet. Joe is survived by his son, Jon Patricia Vander Meer of Kalamazoo; 2 grand daughters, Galina and Yulia, of Kalamazoo; 2 sisters, Betty Hekman of Grand Rapids and Henrietta Butcher of Galesburg; a brother, Fred Vander Meer of Chicago; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 AM in the Hope Reformed Church, 910 Jenks Blvd., with Pastor Kent Frens officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hope Reformed Church, Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan or the American Cancer Association. Please visit
