SULLIVAN, John L.
Of Portage, Michigan John passed away Sunday, February 24, 2008. He was born October 12, 1912, in Coldwater, Michigan, the son of John and Winnie Finney Sullivan. John was a Kalamazoo area resident since 1918 and through the years was owner of Sullivan's Food Market, co-owner of The Park Lunch and was employed with John C. Klosterman Company for over 20 years, retiring in 1976 as vice-president. Following retirement he worked for several years at Oakland Hills Golf Course. He was a life member of the Elks Lodge. On August 16, 1933, he was united in marriage to the former Dorothy E. Hafer who preceded him in death on February 10, 2000. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Darlene Ann Miller on July 9, 1983 and by three sisters, Mary Sullivan, Nora Randall and Margaret Masera. Surviving are two grandsons, John C. Mary Miller of Phoenix, AZ, and Thomas M. Melissa Miller of Portage; a son-in-law, Charles E. Miller of Portage; two great-grandsons, Nicholas Miller and Noah Miller and three nieces, Madelyn McGuffin, Marilyn Butler and Memorie Walter. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6-8 PM and Saturday from 10-11 AM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick Street where funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday with Pastor James Dyke officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to American Diabetes Association, or a charity of your choice.
