Of Kalamazoo, Michigan John F. "Jack" Shaw was born June 1, 1938, in Kane, Pennsylvania, the son of John and Mary Hollingshead Shaw and he passed away January 9, 2009, in Kalamazoo, MI. He received his BA degree at Muskingum College and his MA degree at Western Michigan University. Jack served in the U. S. Army from 1962-68. On July 10, 1971, he was united in marriage to the former Karen Olson. For over 32 years he served as head coach for the track and field and cross country teams for WMU. Jack was a member of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. Surviving are his mother, Mary Shaw, wife, Karen Shaw of Kalamazoo; two sons, Scott and Bridget Shaw of Howell, MI and Timothy Shaw of Plymouth, MI; two granddaughters, Samantha and Sydney Shaw of Howell, MI; a sister, Barbara and Edward Eschbach of Mill Valley, CA. The family will receive friends from 3-5 PM Sunday, January 18, 2009 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. A memorial service to celebrate Jack's life will be held 11:00 AM Monday, January 19, 2009 at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church 1747 W. Milham Ave. with Pastor Paul Nuechterlein officiating. Memorials in Jack's memory may be directed to West Michigan Cancer Center, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, or Bring Back Track at WMU.
