Age 79 Passed away Friday morning, February 17, 2012, with family by his side. John was born December 27, 1932, in Climax, Mich., the son of Fred and Genette Ady Roe. A 1951 graduate of Climax-Scotts High School, John was a Climax/Portage area resident most of his life. During the Korean War, he served with the U.S. Army, and he was later employed with Clark Equipment and Collateral Management for many years before retiring. John was an active member of Pathfinder Church, formerly known as the Portage First United Methodist Church, and was well-known as an avid bluegill fisherman and golfer. Surviving is his wife of 58 years, Audrey I. Longman Roe; two children, Lorrie Larry Loeks of Kalamazoo, and Bradley Roe of Lakeland, Fla.; four grandchildren, Nicholas Betsy Loeks, Susanne Aaron Treloar, Patrick Elizabeth Loeks, and Jamie Rachael Loeks; and five great-grandchildren, Morrigan, Tyler, Kylie, Haven, and Lindsey; two brothers, Howard Mary Ann Roe of Kansas City, Mo., and George Karen Roe of Climax; two sisters, Beth Don Demerell of Climax and Mary Wood of Battle Creek; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. Family will greet friends on Saturday, March 3, from 9-11 a.m., at Pathfinder Church, 8740 South Westnedge Ave., where a memorial service will take place at 11 a.m., following the visitation. Private graveside services will be held in Ft. Custer National Cemetery in Augusta with full military honors at a later date. As a member of Climax #59 Free & Accepted Masons and Royal ARCH Masons Bedford #188, there will also be a Masonic Service held in honor of John at KCMC Masonic Lodge on U Ave., Schoolcraft, Mich., on Friday, March 2, at 6 p.m. Memorials may be directed to Pathfinder Church or the West Michigan Cancer Center.
