John "Jack" Richards, Sr., 69, was called home Wednesday, February 14, 2018. He was born November 7, 1948 in Detroit, MI to the late Jack and Gertrude (Asbury) Richards. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in November 1966 and served two tours in Vietnam. He was a Purple Heart recipient, and was honorably discharged in November 1969. After his military service, Jack served as a Michigan State Trooper for 23 years, primarily at the Reed City Post.
Jack enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, and his friends at the VFW. Jack invested countless hours of his time volunteering for Habitat for Humanity builds across the country. He enjoyed spending time on the water and various other activities including softball, golf, tennis, pickleball and even some Ping-Pong with his grandkids. 1960s Pontiac muscle cars were a lifelong interest with music from that era providing the soundtrack to Jack's life.
Jack is survived by his children, John (Stacey) Richards, Jr. and Kimberly (Ty) Weiss; grandchildren, Cierra, Parker, Bailey, Jakob, Kirsten, Natalie, Paetyn, Ty "Tiger" and Kate; siblings, Margaret Littlefield and Jim Richards; nieces, Kris (David) Lamb and Tiffany (John) Read. Jack was preceded in death by his son Jeffrey. A graveside service will take place on March 2, 2018 at 2:30 pm at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI. Those wishing to attend the service should arrive at the cemetery, in the funeral assembly area, between 2:15-2:30 pm. Arrangements by Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel.
