Of Portage, MI Passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at the age of 76. He was born in Decatur, Alabama on October 1, 1936, the son of the late Toney and Katie Washburn Ratliff. He worked for Saniwax Paper Company for 18 years and then for the General Motors Fisher Body Plant, retiring after 20 ½ years of service. John was a loving person who enjoyed spending time with his family. He was proud that he was able to walk 4 miles a day, six days a week. After these daily walks, he enjoyed having coffee with friends at McDonalds. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janice Earls Ratliff. They were united in marriage on September 27, 1957. He is also survived by his children, Darrell Terry Ratliff of Hopkins and Rhonda Steve Allen of Plainwell; his grandchildren, Katie, Hannah, Rachel and Emma; his great-granddaughter, Violet; his siblings, James Doris Ratliff of Decatur, AL and Luther Ratliff of Kalamazoo. He was preceded in death by his brother and sister and their spouses, Wilburn and Judy Ratliff , Wanda and Dave Harrison; and his sister-in-law, Mary Ratliff. Friends may visit with the family from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Monday, May 6, 2013 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St., where the funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 7, 2013. Rev. John Moore will officiate with burial in Riverside Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Rose Arbor Hospice Residence.
