POGUE, John J.
of Kalamazoo, Michigan John J. Pogue of Kalamazoo passed away unexpectedly on August 2nd, 2009 at the age of 59. He was born August 11, 1949 in Plainwell, Michigan to Redes Pogue and Nina Ulam Pogue. John was a lifelong resident of the Kalamazoo area. At an early age, John taught himself how to play the electric guitar and bass - a natural talent for which he gained considerable proficiency. He was part of the rock music scene around the region for most of his adult life. Those who heard him play will remember his funky bass licks and rock vocals which could range from smooth to throaty in style. Playing music was his life. In addition to his music, John loved animals, and animals always seemed to have a natural affinity to him; as if they understood he was their friend. John is survived by his daughter Catherine, son-in-law David, and his grandsons Daniel and Charlie. He is also survived by his parents, Redes and Nina of Arkansas, sisters Sandra, Rosie and Susie of Arkansas, and Gail of Texas, as well as several brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and their children. A memorial service will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Savior, 36616 E. G Avenue, Kalamazoo on Monday August 10 at 1PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for contributions in memory of John to the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission.
