John B. Myers

MYERS, John B.
of Portage Passed away on August 11, 2011 at his residence with his loving wife Shirley at his side. John was born August 17, 1929 in Kalamazoo, MI, a son of Harold and Regina Patnode Myers. He graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School and immediately joined the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. Shortly after his discharge from the Army, John enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and retired on December 1, 1970 which included the Vietnam Era. While stationed in England, John met the love of his life Shirley, to whom he was married on October 26, 1968. After his discharge from the Air Force, John worked as a postal carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 20 years until his retirement. Surviving are his loving wife Shirley; a brother Harold "Sparky" Myers and his wife Patricia of Republic, MI and a sister Maxine Grosser and husband Robert of Kalamazoo; many nieces and nephews. Cremation will take place followed by private military honors at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. A gathering for family and friends will be announced at a later date. The family would like to thank special friends and neighbors, Marge and Doug Smith, Barb and Larry Gracie and Else White for their help to Shirley in the care of John.
