LINDSAY, John "Jack"
of Richland, MI Jack passed away Wednesday morning, July 15, 2009, at his home. He was born August 26, 1920, one of five children to John P. and Julia Schindler Lindsay. Jack was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in Europe during World War II, the Korean Conflict, and the Army Reserve. He was a graduate of the University of Michigan and Western Michigan University. Jack was a teacher for 30 years, beginning at Gull Road School, followed by many years at Comstock High School until his retirement in 1986. During retirement, he taught part-time for Comstock Adult Education and Kalamazoo Valley Community College. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Sally Schwab Lindsay; daughter, Ann Lindsay of Kalamazoo; brother, Joseph Lindsay of Grand Rapids; and several in-laws, nieces, and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; son, John J. Lindsay; and three sisters, Ruth Finch, Irene Gillon, and Helen Lindsay. Graveside services with military honors for Jack will be at 11:30AM on Wednesday at Ft. Custer National Cemetery, 15501 Dickman Road M-96, Augusta. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Advocates for Persons with Developmental Disabilities, Borgess Visiting Nurse and Hospice, or a charity of one's choice.
