John Michael "Mike" Kostin

October 11, 1961 — January 19, 2012

KOSTIN, John Michael, "Mike"
Parchment John Michael Kostin died unexpectedly but peacefully, in his sleep on Thursday, January 19, 2012. He was born on October 11, 1961, in Winston-Salem, NC and grew up in North Carolina, New Orleans, New York and the Kalamazoo area. He graduated from Western Michigan University with a degree in Art History. His most satisfying work was as a photojournalist in Southern California, where he lived for 10 years. He returned to the Kalamazoo area in 1996. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling to over 30 countries, cooking, gardening and his German Shorthair Pointer, Buddy. He is survived by his parents, Dr. John and Marilyn Kostin, his sister, Kathryn Larry Weston of Simpsonville, SC, his sister, Paula Mark Norris of Berthoud, CO, his brother, David Noemi Kostin of Thousand Oaks, CA, his sister, Anna Rebecca Sean Sinotte of Melbourne, FL and his sister, Lisa Philip Zbojniewicz of Greensboro, NC, as well as his eleven nieces and nephews to whom he was very close: Marley & Chandler Norris, Margaret & Melanie Weston, Erik & Cristina Kostin, Audrey, Olivia & Marilyn Grace Sinotte and Alexander & Elisabeth Zbojniewicz. We enjoyed Mike's intellectual curiosity, his strong interest in religion, his quirky sense of humor and his infectious laugh. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 AM in the Christian Church Disciples of Christ, 2208 Winchell Avenue. Interment will take place in Lyons, NE. The family will receive friends at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. on Monday from 2-4 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Kalamazoo Humane Society.
