Kalamazoo, MI Went to be with the Lord Wednesday morning October 17, 2007. John was born May 12, 1919 in Fairmount, Georgia a son of Charles and Nappa Gillespie Horton. During WWII, he served with the U.S. Army. He had been a Kalamazoo area resident since 1966 and was employed with International Paper for 42 years before retiring. He was also a member of Bethel Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; 5 brothers; and 6 sisters. On April 11, 1947, he was united in marriage to Laura L. Bowman Horton who survives. Also surviving, 4 children, Donald Kathryn Horton of Vicksburg, David Yvonne Horton and Krystal Henry Holland all of Kalamazoo, and Karen Mark McLemore of Boerne, TX; 13 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Vivian Moss of Calhoun, GA, Rae Moss of Jasper, GA, and Addie Davis of Marietta, GA; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Services will be held 11 o?clock Monday at Bethel Baptist Church, 402 S. Westnedge. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8pm Sunday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. Interment will be in Fort Custer National Cemetery with full military honors.
