John R. Groh, Sr

January 7, 1956 — January 19, 2011

Went to be with his Lord and Savior. He passed peacefully at home with all of his family present, on January 19, 2011. John was a very avid sports fan and had a keen knowledge of all sports and was a great sports fan follower. John had a keen memory for a lot of trivia and enjoyed sharing that trivia with others. John played football in high school and could remember scores from games with competitors from as long back as 30-plus years. He graduated from Galesburg-Augusta High School in 1974. John enjoyed spending time at the family cottage in the summer with family, fishing and sunbathing. John was a strong and supportive family man and his sons have always been his pride and joy and he always had a huge desire to be protective of them and he always worried about them and their activities. John graduated from WMU in 1980 with a Bachelor's Degree in Education with a History major and Math minor. John always had a desire to teach. He fulfilled those dreams by coaching the high school bowling teams for a number of years and also coached track for a number of years. He truly enjoyed helping to teach others those skills he had and wanted to share that knowledge and pass it on to the younger kids. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Ruby Groh; his brother, Jim Groh; and sister-in-law, Lou Ellen Groh. He is survived by his loving wife Lori of 29 years; sons, John Carin Groh, Jr., and Daniel Groh; and his brother, Joe Sue Groh. Also surviving are his in-laws, Skeet Lois Rayman; sister-in-law, Sandy Dan Hough; nephews, Mike Groh, Michelle Chris Slaton, Mike Sara Hough, Marc Amy Hough, Matt Mandi Groh; niece, Jennifer Chris O'Brien; and several great nephews and nieces, who all loved their "Great" Uncle John. Family will greet friends on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8:00 o'clock at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Galesburg Chapel, 145 W. Battle Creek St. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, 11:00 o'clock at the Galesburg-Augusta High School. Following the memorial service, burial will take place at Roof Cemetery. Donations can be made to the Humane Society of Battle Creek, due to his love of all creatures, large and small, or to Oaklawn Home care and Hospice of Marshall, 122 High St., Marshall, MI 49068.
