John Earl Grabber

Kalamazoo John died Monday morning, December 22, 2008 at his home. He was born on November 7, 1945, in Washington, D.C., a son of John L. and Esther Tyler Grabber. John was an honors graduate from Michigan State University after serving in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. During the 1970s and 80's he was a newscaster, reporter and executive news producer at WWMT Channel 3 News. After leaving Channel 3 John was named Associate Director of Communications at Albion College. Currently John was employed as a video producer and photographer at Merigan Communications. John has supported a number of local groups including Open Door and Next Door Shelter, Colleagues International, and the Girls Scouts. In his free time, John enjoyed watching Michigan State sports, boating , skiing, biking and hiking. John is survived by: Susan Merigan of Kalamazoo and two children and their spouses, Amy Jeff Louer of New Bern, NC and John Brian Christy Graeber of Chattanooga, TN; four grandchildren, Jack, Megan & Emily Louer and Elie Graeber; a sister and her husband, Helen Graber & George Eberle of Salt Lake City, UT; and a brother and his wife, Jeff Sue Grabber of Gobles. Friends and family will gather for visitation tomorrow, Monday from 2-4 & 6-8pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. A memorial service will be held 11:00 Tuesday morning at the funeral home with Pastor Barry Petrucci of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, officiating.
