Kalamazoo Passed away Sunday, June 5, 2011. John was born November 25, 1923 in Kalamazoo, the son of Henry and Bertha Balkema Glas and was a lifelong resident of Kalamazoo. He retired from the Upjohn Company and was a member of Grace Christian Reformed Church. On September 26, 1946, he married Lucille Slager, who survives. John is also survived by their children, Carolyn Dean Vander Meulen of Shelbyville, MI, Marjorie Dan Vanden Berg of Kalamazoo, Shirley Jerry Boven of Portage and David Jane Glas of Kalamazoo; 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; a sister, Lena Hartman of Portage; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Grace Vande Streek. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 AM in the Grace Christian Reformed Church, 1724 Whites Rd., with Rev. Greg Timmer officiating. Interment will take place in Comstock Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. on Wednesday from 5-8 PM and on Thursday, at the church beginning at 10:00 AM until service time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission or Park Village Pines.
