Of Parchment, Michigan John passed away Tuesday morning, January 13, 2009 at his home. He was born September 19, 1941 in Chicago, IL, the son of the late Lawrence and Willa June Galbreath Ebbitt. A 1959 graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School, John was employed by General Motors Corp. for 34 years until his retirement. He attended Parchment United Methodist Church, was an avid bowler, bowling two 300 games, enjoyed going to the casino and he faithfully played the lottery. John was also very proud of this 1985 Pontiac Firebird. On March 4, 1961, he was united in marriage to Sharon Horton. Surviving are his wife, Sharon Ebbitt; 4 children, Julie Lindsley of Portage, Donald Kati Wyman Ebbitt of Parchment, Thomas Ebbitt of Parchment, and Jill Rick Wisser of Kalamazoo; 8 grandchildren, Andrew and Brandon Lindsley, Shelby, Brittany, Mackenzie, and Lexy Ebbitt, and Sarah and RJ Wisser; 1 half-sister, Wendy Donnie Byers of Martin; 1 half-brother, David Weal of Ohio; 1 uncle, Jack Carol Galbreath; mother-in-law, Hazel Warnicke of Parchment; 2 sisters-in-law, Delma Richard Pelikan of Schoolcraft and Sonja Lemley of Houston, TX and numerous, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceding him in death were his father, Larry Ebbitt; mother, June Weal; and 1 brother, Donald Ebbitt as an infant. Funeral services for John will be at 11:00 AM on Friday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street, with Rev. Dan Minor officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM on Thursday at the funeral home. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be directed to West Michigan Cancer Center or Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
