DOOT, John E., Sr.
Of Kalamazoo John went home to be with his Lord and Savior Sunday morning, May 5, 2013. He was born July 11, 1930 in Grand Rapids, the son of the late Benjamin and Ann Hatton Doot. John was a 1948 graduate of Kelloggsville High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War. On July 9, 1954, he was united in marriage to Arlene M. Klomp in Grand Rapids. John graduated from Davenport College with a business degree and retired in 1995 after a successful career in sales. He had a strong faith and a great love for the Lord and his church, Hope Reformed, where he served as deacon and elder. John was an active member of Travelers Protective Association over 50 years, where he served as both the State President and National Director. He was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting and sports, especially baseball. John was a loving and devoted husband and father. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Arlene Doot; their three children, John Jr. Carmen Doot of Hudsonville, Ann Doug Charles of Mattawan and Ron Jody Dorothy Doot of Plainwell; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Catherine Blacquiere of Grand Rapids and Shirley Gary Koben of Hessel; brother, Bill Doot of Grand Rapids and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service celebrating John's life will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Thursday at Hope Reformed Church, 910 Jenks Blvd., Kalamazoo with Rev. Kent Frens officiating. Interment will follow the luncheon at Ft. Custer National Cemetery, Augusta. Friends may visit with the family from 4-8 PM on Wednesday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street, Kalamazoo. Memorial contributions may be directed to Hope Reformed Church or Kalamazoo Gospel Mission.
