John William Costello died peacefully at his home on Saturday, November 7, 2020. He was born March 12, 1940, in Kalamazoo, MI, to William F. and Margeurite V. (Minor) Costello.
John was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, JoAnn (Hallam) Costello; brother, Alan; sisters, Sharon, and Cindy; and stepson, Mark Bellinger. He is survived by his wife, Peggy A. Costello; Peggy's children, Kimberly Rice, Kelly Bellinger, Jill Osbourne, and Michael Bellinger; brothers, Dawson Brown (Jean) and Dwight Brown (Patsy), and sister, Mary Perez.
John was a lifetime resident of Kalamazoo. He attended Central High School and Western Michigan University where he earned his BA and Master's degree in education. He went on to teach for 31 years, retiring in 1994. John was a long-time, dedicated member of Parchment United Methodist Church, volunteering his time in many capacities. He also belonged to Comstock MEA, Michigan MEA, National MEA, MEA Retired Assoc., and near and dear to his heart Ball Bouncers, Inc. Some of John's favorite past-times included spending time with his cherished wife, supporting his favorite baseball team, The Pittsburgh Pirates, he especially enjoyed reading, and could devour a novel in a few short days, a weekly poker game with his buddies was always a highlight, as well as bowling on several different leagues.
Private church services will be held at Parchment United Methodist Church. Due to Covid restrictions, his service will be taped for later viewing. A private graveside service will be held in Mount Ever-Rest Memorial Park, South.
