Formerly of Kalamazoo Died September 6, 2009 in Tucson, AZ. John was born August 4, 1921 in Grand Rapids, MI, the son of John and Hattie Geukes and had lived in the Kalamazoo area for most of his life. He graduated from Grand Rapids High School in 1939 and served in the U.S. Army, attached to the Armored Signal Company, 6th Armored Division during World War II. John was employed for 38 years at the Michigan Bell Telephone Company until his retirement in 1979. He was an avid fisherman and loved to watch TV Sports. He was an excellent cribbage player and even had the "perfect hand". John was a member of the American Legion Post in Plainwell and the D.A.V. He was a Mason and a member of the Plainwell Lodge and the Shiner's Club. John was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Ivan Bronkhorst in 1996. On May 27, 1966, he was married to Helen Schlukebir, who survives. Also surviving are 4 daughters, Bonnie Tom Rosenberg of Plainwell, Cheryl Robert Jackson of Monteagle, TN, Pamela Don DeVisser of Tigard, OR and Penny Phil Snook of Tiffin, OH; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. with the Rev. James Dyke officiating. Interment in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. Friends may meet the family Friday evening from 6-8 pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in John's memory may be made to Mt. View Care Center, 1313 W.
