Portage, Michigan As he was being comforted by his daughter Sally here on earth, John was welcomed into heaven by his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and his daughter, Nancy, who preceded him in death on November 24, 2007. John was born in Portage on 8-8-28 to Jacob and Gertie Bouma, who preceded him in death. He attended Portage Public Schools. He was a home builder for 22 years and retired as a broker/realtor after 39 years. He served his church in the building committee, as an elder and as church administrator. John also served on the Kalamazoo Christian School Board and was past President of the Kalamazoo Christian School Association. He enjoyed golfing and singing with the Singing Crusaders of Kalamazoo. Last October, he celebrated his 60th wedding anniversary to Armintha Scheffers Bouma by visiting his daughter and son-in-law in Arizona. In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Ken Brenda Bouma of Kalamazoo, Jay and Steve Bouma of Portage, and daughter, Sally Brian Rishaw of Tempe, AZ; grandson Lon Michelle, great-grandsons, Ethan and Ezra Bouma, granddaughter, Brooke Casey, great grand-daughter, Ella Rae Gill and Summer Ty Monroe. Survivors also include his sisters, Janet Herman Franke, Eleanor Batts, Dorothy John Balkema and Beverly Paul Mepyans. He will be missed so much each day. We take comfort that he now lives in heaven with his Lord and Savior. "Well done my good and faithful servant".You may meet with the family at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. on Sunday and Monday from 6-8 PM. Services will be held at the Prairie Edge Christian Reformed Church, 9316 Oakland Drive on Tuesday at 11:00 AM with his pastors, Phil Kok and Harold Cupery officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Singing Crusaders, the Kalamazoo Christian Schools or Prairie Edge Christian Reformed Church.
