John C. Bennink

BENNINK, John C. of Kalamazoo, Michigan Passed away Tuesday October 30, 2012 at his residence. John was born June 1, 1916 in Kalamazoo the son of Gerrit and Nellie VanAdrichem Bennink and had been a lifelong resident in the Kalamazoo area. He worked with the United States Postal Service for 37 years and retired in 1973 as Chief Accountant. John was a charter member of Greenwood Reformed Church, where he served for several years as Elder and Vice-President. He also served as president for several years of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. On May 8, 1940 he was united in marriage to his loving wife of over 72 years, the former Agnes Veld, who survives. Also surviving are his children, Dr. Richard Leslie Bennink of Mexico, Philip Penny Bennink of North Carolina, Jeanne George Robinson of Kalamazoo, Barbara Leonard Lebowitz of Paw Paw; 7 grandchildren, Lynnae Tim Ryan, Melissa John Preston, Angie Matt Johnson, Shannon Chris Graham, Neil Jenny Bennink, Todd Kimber Robinson, Scott Robinson; 14 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Betty Bennink of Holland; sister, Helen Plummer; sisters-in-law, Louise Bennink, Ruth Veld; brother-in-law, Lewis Nancy Meyers and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Isaac VanderZyden; brother, Bernard "Bud" Bennink, sisters, Cordelia Kalleward, and Elaine Meyers. Services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday at Greenwood Reformed Church, 1815 Winton, with Pastor Jonathan Loper officiating. Private family interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. Friends may meet the family Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. Memorials may be directed to the Greenwood Reformed Church or Ministry with Community.
