KONING, Johanna
Of Kalamazoo Johanna slipped away quietly into the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ, on September 9, 2012. She was born in Shelbyville, MI on September 20, 1934. She was the third daughter of Johannes and Bernadena Buijes Wielinga. She was affectionately known as "Baby Sister" by her oldest sister Ann Brink who survives. Her older sister Grace John Holthouse along with her parents was waiting for her in Heaven. Jo graduated from Kalamazoo Christian High School in 1951. She married the love of her life, Donald E. Koning on March 18, 1955. Alzheimer's Disease took many things from her, but it couldn't take the love of her faithful husband of 57 years. Jo worked outside the home as a bookkeeper. Her most important "jobs" were loving and taking care of her husband, Don, her children and grandchildren. She had a beautiful voice and the gift of hospitality. Her home was always open to anyone for a great meal, a listening ear, tear and/or hug. She would move Heaven and earth to help others. Surviving are her husband, Don, and her two daughters Jan Robert Voss and Joyce Tim Carpenter. Also surviving are four grandchildren: Jaymie Voss, Nathan Sarah Voss, Joshua Carpenter, and Elizabeth Carpenter. She is survived by her sisters-in-law, Shirley Bob Luckey, Elleen Frank French, Saundra Dave Ives, and Pearl Koning. She was also blessed with many special nieces and nephews who loved their "Aunt Jo". Visitation will be Thursday, September 13, 2012, from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. A memorial service will take place Friday, September 14, 2012, at 11 AM at Second Christian Reformed Church, 3015 Nichols Road in Kalamazoo. Private interment will be in Genesee Prairie Cemetery. Donations in Jo's memory can be made to Hospice Services of Southwest Michigan, Second Christian Reformed Church, or Crossroads Bible Institute CBI.
