Died Wednesday afternoon December 16, 2015. Joe was born April 19, 1925 in Montpelier, Indiana a son of Forrest and Georgia (Ellis) Crain. He grew up in Sturgis, Michigan. During WWII, he served with the U.S. Navy. He received a BS degree from Western Michigan University and also played on their JV basketball team. He had been a Kalamazoo area resident since 1952 and was employed with Michigan Mutual Insurance for 34 years, retiring in 1985. Joe enjoyed fishing, watching the WMU football and basketball games, was a long-time member of the YMCA was also a member of the Kalamazoo Elks Lodge. On June 11, 1949, he was united in marriage to Nola J. (Hagenbuch) Crain who survives. Also surviving, a daughter, Susan (Jack) Kreling of Kalamazoo; 2 grandchildren, Andrew Kreling of Chicago and Jill Kreling of Portland, OR; and a cousin, Val (Sue) Milholland. Private services and burial will be held at a later date. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be directed to the WMU Gary Fund or the YMCA.
