of Portage, formerly of East Lynn, IL Passed away Wednesday morning, April 23, 2008 at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence. Betty was born August 2, 1920 in East Lynn, IL, the daughter of Walter and Edith Luxton McConnell. She graduated from Brokaw Nursing School and worked at Hines VA Hospital in Chicago and Babyfold in Bloomington before her career with the American Can Company as an Occupational Nurse. She was a member of the East Lynn United Methodist Church and served as Sunday School Nursery teacher for many years. Betty was a loving caregiver to those in need and enjoyed helping others. She moved to Portage in 2000 where she attended Chapel Hill United Methodist Church and enjoyed spending time with her family. She also enjoyed embroidery, quilting, and following the Chicago Cubs. Surviving are her sisters and brother, Helen Bob Vessey, Ruth McConnell, Walter"Tom" McConnell, Edith "Sue" Randall; nieces and nephews, Jon Vessey, Mary Ann Lynn Frederick, David Vessey, Russell Randall, Jackie Marc Kline; great nieces and nephews, Luke, Ty, Leah, and Hope. There will be no visitation and a memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, April 29 at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, 7028 Oakland Drive. Memorials may be directed to the Rose Arbor Hospice Residence or East Lynn United Methodist Church.
