Kalamazoo Joan passed away Monday morning, October 29, 2007 at her daughter?s home in Mackinac City with care provided by Hospice of the Straits. She was born May 30, 1927, in Plainwell, one of three children to J. Leon and Hazel Honeysett Wagner. A graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School, Joan was a volunteer telephone operator for the Cooper Township Fire Dept. for many years. She was also involved in the Woman?s Auxiliary in the former East Cooper School District and a former longtime Girl Scout Leader. On August 1, 1945, Joan was united in marriage to William D. Young in Kalamazoo, who survives. Also surviving are four children, Linda Young of Kalamazoo, Marsha Manuel Garza of Wayland, William Cindy Young of Kalamazoo, and Sonya John Riemer of Mackinac City; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death are her parents; and two brothers, LaVerne and Ronald Wagner. Funeral services for Joan will be at 2:00 PM on Monday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick Street. Friends may visit with the family from 1 PM until the time of services on Monday. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Plainwell.
