TELFER, Joan M.
of Portage, Michigan Passed away August 9, 2010 at Bronson Hospital. She was born May 13, 1936 in Constantine, MI to the late Wilson and Pauline Thorne Riggs. Joan was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Richland. She loved her family first and foremost and she also had a passion for her dog, Maggie. She also enjoyed taking care of her birds, doing embroidery and making special gifts for her grandchildren. Surviving Joan are her children, Debi Motter of Comstock, Stephen Deb Hagenbuch of Lawton, Robin Walker of Grand Rapids and Tamera Ricketts of Kalamazoo; step-children, Diane Double and David Telfer, both of Richland; 10 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; sisters, Rose Born and Janet Ray Tucker; several nieces and nephews; and Marjorie George Miller who Joan considered as her own sister and brother-in-law. Also preceding Joan in death was her husband, James D. Telfer. A Memorial Service will take place Saturday, August 14th , 10:00 o'clock at the First Presbyterian Church, 8047 Church St., Richland, MI 49083, Rev. Ericka Parkinson, officiating. Arrangements by the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 East Centre Ave. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the church, Hospice of SW Michigan or to the Kalamazoo Humane Society.
