MEADOWS, Joan M.
Of Kalamazoo, Michigan Went home to be with her Lord, Friday, November 21, 2008. Joan was born September 21, 1931, in Kalamazoo, the daughter of the late George and Audrey Furney Fonner and has been a lifelong area resident. She was employed for several years with Edison Elementary School. She was a longtime member of the First Church of the Nazarene where she was active as a Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School and an early board member for the Wee Care Nursery School. Joan enjoyed life and loved her family, especially family gatherings. Crossword and jigsaw puzzles were a favorite pastime. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Duane VonEitzen in 1960; a sister, Joyce Reiley and a brother, John Fonner. In 1968, Joan was married to Carl Meadows, who survives. Surviving are her sons, Timothy Deborah VonEitzen, Thomas Kathleen VonEitzen; step-children, David Sharon Meadows, Thomas Patricia Meadows, Sharon James Stevenson, Susan Jerry Shepherd, Diane Keith Johnson, Shirley Donald Hoogstraten; 31 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; a sister-in-law, Shirley Fonner and several nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews.. The family will receive friends on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. Funeral Services will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday at First Church of the Nazarene 5625 Oakland Drive with Rev. David Downs officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park. Memorials in Joan's memory may be directed to First Church of the Nazarene; the Indian Lake Nazarene Camp; or Hospice.
