Kalamazoo Joan went to be with her Lord Tuesday evening, May 27, 2008. She was born February 4, 1934 in Buffalo, NY. Joan was a former longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Paw Paw. She was employed by both Shaw Jewelers and Meyer Jewelers for many years. She later owned and operated "Forever Yours Bridal", a bridal consignment shop until her retirement in 2003. On November 6, 1952, Joan was united in marriage to Leonard Ladd, who preceded her in death in 1982. Also preceding her in death were her mother, Pearl Moore; 2 brothers, Sonny and Frankie Poffenbarger; and 2 sisters, Josephine and Rosie Poffenbarger. Joan's greatest treasures in her life were her family. Surviving are her 4 children, Dennis Ladd of Kalamazoo, David Tanya Ladd of Jefferson, GA, Cheryl Dennis O'Donnell of Mattawan, and Cathi Monty Clark of Diamondale; 9 grandchildren, Christy Quincy Nunn, Erin Ken Hammer, Renee Larry Wallace, Zach O'Donnell, Nicholas Beth Ladd and Lauren Ladd, and Colin, Landon, and Nolan Clark; 4 great-grandchildren, Ava and Audrey Nunn, Keller Hammer, and Isabelle Wallace; 5 brothers, Freddie, Rudy, Robert, Georgie, and Richard Poffenbarger; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services for Joan will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday at Kalamazoo Missionary Church, 5045 E. Michigan Ave., with Pastor Ken Smeader officiating. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be directed to American Cancer Society or Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
