Kalamazoo, MI Died Tuesday afternoon January 21, 2008. Jessie was born June 10, 1924 in Galesburg, Michigan a daughter of Mantle and Jessie Creque Downs. She had been a Kalamazoo area resident most of her life and was employed with George Sage Insurance Agency years ago. She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 sons, Alton and Gary Shafer; 4 sisters; and a brother. On June 22, 1946, she was united in marriage to Norval D. Shafer who survives. Also surviving, a son, David Shafer of Kalamazoo. Anatomical donation to Michigan State University has taken place. Friends may meet the family 2-4 and 6-8pm Thursday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S.
