LEMMER, Jessie J.
Of Kalamazoo Jessie went peacefully home to be with her Lord on Saturday afternoon, October 30, 2010. She was born May 24, 1923 in Rapelje, Montana, the oldest of six children to John and Dora Riedstra Van Dyke. Jessie was employed by Western Michigan University for many years until her retirement. Jessie and her husband, Ken, thoroughly enjoyed wintering in Tucson, AZ from 1983-2003. She was a current member of Milwood Christian Reformed Church, and former member of Westwood Christian Reformed Church. Jessie was very active in her church's programs, including Sunday School, Bible School, Calvinettes and Bible Study. She also enjoyed sewing and making gifts for her family. Jessie was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Ken Lemmer, on June 13, 2009. She was also preceded in death by: her parents, a brother, Albert Van Dyke and a brother-in-law, Gerald Dolieslager. Surviving are: 6 children, Robert Deb Lemmer of Kalamazoo, Ruth Steve DeYoung of Kalamazoo, David Debbie Lemmer of Shelbyville, Joel Annie Lemmer of Bloomingdale, Norma Thomas Kloosterman of Kalamazoo, and James Suzy Lemmer of Portage; special daughter-in-law, Helen Lemmer of Kalamazoo; 16 grandchildren, Chad Megan, Kristina, Danielle, Jami, Julie, Joshua, Samantha, Kenny Amber, and Lisa Lemmer, Rebecca Scott Veeder, Nicholas Tiffany, and Zachary DeYoung, Amanda Russ DeVries, and Sara, Jeff, and Scott Kloosterman; 4 great-grandchildren, Rozalynn, Morgan, Remington and Loulabelle; 2 brothers, Thomas Bertha Van Dyke and Abram Dean Van Dyke; 2 sisters, Henrietta Leonard Tellinghuisen and Alwena Dolieslager; a sister-in-law, Doreen Van Dyke; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Jessie will be held 11:00 Friday morning at Milwood Christian Reformed Church, 3306 Lovers Lane, with Pastor Bill Fernhout of Westwood Christian Reformed Church, officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday from 5-8 PM at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street. Private interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest North Park.
