MEJEUR, Jerry Of Portage Went home to be with his Lord, on Thursday evening, September 27, 2007, while surrounded by his family. Jerry was born October 2, 1916, in Kalamazoo, the son of John and Susie Smit Mejeur and has been a lifelong area resident. During WW II, from 1942-45, he served in the U.S. Army Air Force. Jerry was a longtime active member of the First Reformed Church of Portage. He worked for many years in electric motor sales and repair and from 1968-81, he was owner of the Midwest Electric Motor and following retirement continued helping out at the shop until last year. On June 20, 1941, he was united in marriage to the former Dena Zwart who preceded him in death on April 24, 1999. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Bill Smit and Uko Mejeur; sisters, Maggie Mejeur, Jennie Noteboom and Jennette Diephuis and by a son-in-law, James Willsea. Surviving are his daughter, Ruth Willsea of Paw Paw; his son, Tom Jodie Mejeur of Lawton; three grandchildren, Sarah Mejeur Ron Lechlitner, T.J. Mejeur and Amy Danny Miller; six great-grandchildren, Rachel, Gabby, Tatum, Landon, Tyler and Logan; three step grandchildren and seven step great-grandchildren; sisters, Jennie VandenBerge, Trena Werner, Sue Michaels, Alberta VanHout; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8pm at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00am Tuesday, October 2 at the First Reformed Church of Portage 7905 S. Westnedge Ave. with Pastors Mike Drew and Ed Martin officiating.
