DOORLAG, Jerry, Sr. Of Kalamazoo Went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, April 18, 2007. Jerry was born January 21, 1923, in Kalamazoo, the son of Henry and Rena Engberts Doorlag and has been a lifelong area resident. During WW II he served in the U.S. Air Force, and for many years was a self-employed contractor. Jerry was a lifetime member of the Third Reformed Church where he served on the consistory, sang in the church choir, taught Sunday school and was a member of Super Seniors. He also served as a board member at North Christian School, as a board member of Park Village Pines and through the years had provided his ministry to many organizations. On September 23, 1947, he was united in marriage to the former Fennah J. Bontekoe who survives. Also surviving are his children, Rev. Dr. Jack L. Mary Doorlag of Hudsonville, Jerry B. Lexi Doorlag of Schoolcraft, Maridean R. William Micheals of Kalamazoo, Timothy A. Connie Doorlag of Kalamazoo; 11 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; brother and sisters, Garret Martena Doorlag, Richard Marilyn Doorlag, Edward Pat Doorlag, John Karen Doorlag, James Ruth Doorlag, Robert Judy Doorlag, Ada Vlietstra, Hattie Howard Irwin, Alyce Bosma; many nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers, Harm, Elzo and Henry. The family will receive friends on Friday today from 2-4 and 6-8pm at the Third Reformed Church Fireside Room 2345 N. 10th St.. A private family interment will be held in Grand Prairie Cemetery. A Memorial Service to celebrate Jerry?s life and home going will be held 11:00am Saturday at Third Reformed Church with his son, Rev. Dr. Jack L. Doorlag officiating. Memorials in Jerry?s memory may be directed to the Kalamazoo Christian School Association.
