EVERETT, Jerald "Jerry"
Kalamazoo Jerry passed away on Saturday evening surrounded by his loving family, at Bronson Hospital. He was born April 27, 1927 in Kalamazoo, MI, to Merle and Ruth Root Everett. He proudly joined the US Navy in 1944, was honorably discharged in 1946 and returned to Kalamazoo. He met his wife, Helen Magierka, at the Silver Star Roller Rink and they were wed in September of 1947. He worked at the International Paper Mill, the Kalamazoo Township Police Department, Consumers Sand and Gravel and then Fisher Body. He retired from GM in 1989 after 23½ years. He was a past president of the UAW Local Union, 488. Jerry was a life member of the Decatur Post VFW, where he served a tour as the post commander, and a proud member of the "Cooties", the USS Houston Association, American Legion and volunteered his free time to the VA Hospital, VA Children's National Home and many other organizations. He enjoyed traveling and taking gambling trips with his wife and spending time with family and friends. He is preceded in death by his older sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Everett of Bradenton, FL. He is survived by his wife, Helen; four sons, Jerald D. Terri Everett of Big Rapids, Daniel M. Susan Everett of Mansfield, OH, Patrick J. Shirley Everett of Comstock and Michael J. Everett of Chicago, IL; and an older brother, Richard Juanita Everett of Portage. He was blessed with six grandchildren, Mason, Sarah, Kimberly, Steven, Eric and Samuel. Also many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM in the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. Interment will take place at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5-8 PM and on Wednesday beginning at 10:00 AM until service time.
