Of Kalamazoo, MI Jennifer L. Davenport, 25, of Kalamazoo, MI, passed away unexpectedly on April 12, 2013. Jennifer was born June 28, 1987 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Jennifer graduated with high academic honors in 2005 from Loy Norrix High School in Kalamazoo. In addition to excelling academically, particularly in science and mathematics, Jennifer excelled as a champion cross country runner, winning numerous titles and awards. As a result of her academic prowess, Jennifer was awarded the prestigious Medallion Scholarship to attend Western Michigan University WMU. Jennifer was a senior at WMU majoring in the Biomedical Sciences. Late in 2010, Jennifer was initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi in recognition of her remarkable academic achievement and high standing in her class at WMU. Jennifer also spent several semesters tutoring other WMU students in genetics and immunology. Jennifer possessed an extraordinary ability to develop and maintain rewarding personal relationships with everyone whom she had contact. Jenny is fondly remembered by her friends and family members for her intelligence, unassuming nature, congenial personality and fun loving spirit. A strong advocate for the prevention of abuse to animals, Jennifer was a lifelong loving pet owner. In addition to her parents Barbara J. Kowal Davenport and Dr. David S. Davenport Jackie, Jennifer is survived by her grandparents, Richard M. and Joan M. Kowal of Kalamazoo; sister, Elizabeth J. Davenport, uncle, David Kowal, and numerous other aunts, uncles and cousins. She also leaves Dexter, her golden retriever who was always at her side. Jennifer was preceded in death by grandparents, William and Lucille Davenport. A private memorial service will be scheduled later this spring.
