SLETTEN, Jeanne L. Galesburg Passed away Sunday, March 11, 2007 at the Laurels of Galesburg. Jeanne Louise Alwood was born August 11, 1926 in Huntington, IN, the daughter of William L. and Wretha Robinett Alwood. She spent most of her childhood in Coloma, MI and graduated from Coloma High School. After receiving her Bachelor?s degree in education from Western Michigan University, Jeanne was a high school math and science teacher in the Mason and Lincoln Park school systems. On June 10, 1950, in Coloma, MI, she married Lyle H. Hanna. He died in 1963. Jeanne then obtained a Master?s degree from WMU and taught special education in the Kalamazoo Public Schools. On New Years Eve, 1968, she met Milford Sletten on a blind date and they were married December 28, 1969. After the marriage, she moved to Churchs Ferry, ND where she and Milford farmed for 22 years. Jeanne and Milford moved to Galesburg after their retirement. Jeanne was always active in her church and was an elder at Lincoln Park Presbyterian Church and Westminster Presbyterian Church in Portage and a church council member at Zion Lutheran Church in Churchs Ferry. She also served as Sunday school superintendent and teacher, a church accompanist, choir participant and director and most recently directed the bell choir at Lutheran Church of the Savior. She had a lifelong interest in education and was a mentor, tutor and piano teacher. She enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles and loved watching sports, especially baseball and basketball. She also loved family gatherings and reunions with her Coloma schoolmates. She is survived by her husband, Milford Sletten of Galesburg; 2 daughters, Judy fiancé Ray Adams Hanna of Kalamazoo and Jackie Hanna of Portage; 2 granddaughters, Robin Rzepczynski of Kalamazoo and Kelsey Rzepczynski of Portage; one brother, John Betsy Alwood of Lewes, DE; sisters-in-law, Ruth Myhre of Devils Lake, ND, Louise Roger Hahn of Nappanee, IN, Fern Daniels of New Hope, MN, Barbara Sletten of Los Alamitos, CA and Darlene Sletten of Carlsbad, CA; brothers-in-law Harold Sletten of Northridge, CA, Robert Ramona Sletten of Devils Lake, ND and Victor Doris Sletten of Argyle, MN; a special niece, Melinda Hilton of Kalamazoo and many nieces, nephews, friends and family members. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lyle Hanna; her sister, Marjorie VanderWeide; sisters-in-law Enid Hansen and Ethelyn Durbin; brothers-in-law, Willis Sletten and Bernard Sletten. A visitation will take place Wednesday, March 14, 2007, from 4 ? 7:00PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Galesburg Chapel, 145 W. Battle Creek St., Galesburg, MI. Funeral services will take place Thursday, March 15, 2007, 11:00AM at Lutheran Church of the Savior, 3616 East G Avenue, Kalamazoo Township, with a visitation from 10:00 ? 11:00AM, prior to services, Rev. Mike Kemper, officiating. Cremation to immediately follow services. Memorial donations may be made in Jeanne?s name to the Lutheran Church of the Savior.
