FLISS, JEANNE ANN
Of Kalamazoo Passed away on February 15, 2010 at Wyndham Retirement Community. Jeanne was born May 12, 1918 in Detroit, MI, a daughter of Teofil and Catherine Wieczorek Holewinski. She was raised in the Detroit area and most recently lived in Bloomfield Hills until moving to Kalamazoo in 2006. Jeanne was one of many American women who worked in war factories to support the American war effort during World War II. She designed and custom made hats as the owner of Jean Hall Originals and later designed girls dresses for the Nancy Lee Original label which was manufactured by her husband as the C. J. Fliss Company. She volunteered for hospice while living in Bloomfield Hills. Jeanne loved all animals and enjoyed gardening. She was a member of the Humane Society of the United States and during the 1960's served on the "Keep Southfield Beautiful" committee. Jeanne also appreciated art and very much enjoyed taking classes in china painting, mosaics, oils and acrylics. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles J. Fliss in 1990 and by 3 brothers, Stanley and Chester Hall and Thaddeus Ted Holewinski. Surviving are 2 daughters and their spouses, Kathie Fliss and husband Evan Johnson of Centennial, CO and Nancy Maudlin and husband Daniel of Kalamazoo; 3 grandchildren, Lindsay Hess of Centennial, CO, Jared Alicia Maudlin of Gainesville, FL and Jessica Benjamin Tweedy of Portage and a great-grandson Cade Tweedy. A Funeral Mass will be held at a later date at St. Hugo of the Hills Catholic Church in Bloomfield Hills, MI. The family suggests that memorial contributions in Jeanne's memory be made to the American Heart Association or to your local Humane Society.
