Of Kalamazoo, Michigan Passed from this life, August 7, 2010, in the assurance of Christ's grace, at Rose Arbor Hospice. Jeanette was born July 23, 1914, in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Carl S. and Cora VanderWall Kruizenga and was a life resident of Kalamazoo. On November 8, 1938, she was united in marriage to Henry C. Sportel, who preceded her in death on November 14, 1979. She was a member of the Third Christian Reformed Church. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Jeanette Sportel VandenBosch. Deje had no children but lavished her love and affection on her two nieces and a nephew and their families, who survive: Micki Merrill, Brenda Ken Bouma and Kenneth Terri Sportel, all of Kalamazoo. She is also survived by several cousins and a special friend Lucille Hess of Fort Wayne, IN. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 10 at 11 am at Third Christian Reformed Church, 2400 Winchell Ave. with the Rev. Dr. Kenneth A. Baker and Rev. Margaret Jenista officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm on Monday, August 9, at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. 343-1508 Memorials may be directed to the Kalamazoo Christian School Foundation or the Third Christian Reformed Church.
