Jay C. Kitson, 70, of Portage passed away at Bronson Methodist Hospital on February 12, 2023. He was born to the late James LeBron Champion and Phyllis Barclay Kitson in Flint, Michigan.

Jay graduated from Kearsley High School in 1970 and graduated from Olivet College in 1973. He then earned a master’s degree from Western Michigan University in 1976.

Upon completion of his master’s, Jay worked as a psychologist at Genesee County Community Mental Health. He then worked for the City of Flint Personnel Department before finding his lifelong passion at Hurley Medical Center. He served as the Employment Manager for five years, then he became the Vice President of Human Resources from 1985 to 2009 before his early retirement.

Jay’s greatest pride and joy in his life was his family. Jay married his beloved wife, Leigh, who survives him, on May 14, 1977. He adored all his children, Jeffrey, Timothy (Kate), and Holly (Chris), and his grandchildren, Beckham, Delaney, Chelsea, Jameson, and Oliver. He enjoyed theatre throughout his life and his children inherited this interest. He loved seeing their shows and musical performance.

Jay is also survived by his dear sister, Maureen Tayler, her son Greg (Amy), and Maureen’s youngest son, Nick.

A private family service and interment will be held for Jay at Langeland Family Funeral Homes. Interment will take place at Portage South Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please donate in Jay’s honor to Hurley Medical Center . The family appreciates all the quality care he received at Hurley Medical Center, Henry Ford Hospital, and Bronson Methodist Hospital.
