Of Portage Janet Jean Miller, age 77, of Portage, MI, died surrounded by family at her home on May 31, 2010. She is now resting peacefully in the loving arms of our heavenly Father. She was born in Huntington, Indiana on March 31, 1933. She was the daughter of Franklin Kenneth Bailey and Laura Mildred Shell Bailey. She is survived by her devoted husband, Garland "Jake" Miller and they were married for nearly 55 years. Janet graduated with a B.S. from Indiana University in Business Management and then was employed at Indiana University as an Administrative Assistant. They moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan after Jake finished his MBA and she then was an Administrative Assistant at Upjohn. After the birth of her children, she was a loving homemaker until her daughters went to college and then she was employed at Biggs-Gilmore. Mrs. Miller was an active volunteer in the schools, including the PTA and the Girl Scouts of America. She had two daughters, Susan Lynn Millard, of Grand Rapids, MI and Diane Kay Miller, of Kalamazoo, MI. Janet's oldest grandchild is Sarah Bailey Wolfe, who attends Huntington University. Her brother, Daniel John Wolfe, goes to Portage Northern. Susan Lynn Millard is married to William Bruce Millard and they have two children, David Jacob Millard and Nathaniel Thomas Millard. David and Nathaniel attend Forest Hills Public Schools in Cascade, Michigan. Janet was preceded in death by her parents and is also survived by her aunt, Bertha Lucille Sal Bugher, age 92, of Yuma, Arizona. Janet died of metastatic lung cancer. At the request of the family, they will receive relatives and friends for a visitation on Sunday, June 6th, 2010, from 4-5 PM at Langeland Family Funeral Home, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street; where immediately following the visitation a memorial service will be held from 5-5:30 PM with Pastor Sue Petro officiating. Following the ceremony a reception will be held at The Moors Golf Club.
