WELBORN, Jane A.
Of Kalamazoo Jane passed away Saturday morning, July 16, 2011 at her home. She was born July 29, 1929 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Saul and Olive Rix Salomon. On June 29, 1951, Jane was united in marriage to Robert A. Welborn. She was a graduate of Kalamazoo State High School. She attended Kalamazoo College for 2 years before going to Michigan State University to earn her B.A. degree in Education. Jane then went on to earn her M.A. degree in Library Science from Western Michigan University. She was employed by Kalamazoo Public Schools for over 30 years until her retirement in 1985. She was member of the Kalamazoo County Republican Party where she served as vice chairwoman for several years. Jane was also a member of Republican Woman's Study Club, Kalamazoo County Board of Canvassers, Kalamazoo Country Club, State Board of Nursing, and St. Luke's Episcopal Church. She was an avid animal lover who loved dogs and enjoyed splitting her time between Kalamazoo and her home in Fripp Island, South Carolina. Surviving are her three children, Mary Tom Wood of Grand Haven, Barbara Welborn of Richland, and Chris Patti Welborn of Portage; four grandchildren, Katy Bob DeVillez, Andrew fiancé Caitlin McGrath Wood, Paige Welborn and Kirsten Welborn; great-granddaughter Evie DeVillez; and brother-in-law, Jack Dorothy Welborn of Kalamazoo. Preceding her in death were her husband Robert Welborn in 1985 and her parents. Funeral services for Jane will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street. Interment will follow in Mt Ever-Rest Memorial Park. Friends may visit with the family from 5-8 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to Michigan State University Veterinary Medicine Research or Robert A. Welborn Scholarship at Western Michigan University.
