WELLS, James E. "Jim"
of Portage James Edward "Jim" Wells of Portage, Mich., passed away Nov. 3 at his home. He was born in Mishawaka, Ind. April 28, 1939 to Mabel Evans and Alburto "Bill" Wells. Jim served in the U.S. Navy after high school, and in 1965 married Rosemarie Jacobs in Mishawaka, Ind. She survives, along with daughters Pam Eric Boonstra, Colleen Brian Trainor, and Annette Brendon McCullin, 9 grandchildren, sisters Jean Hopkins and Janice Clark, and brother Dave. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Marjorie Huston. Jim worked for Elkhart Office Machines until moving to Kalamazoo and then to Portage, where he owned and operated Key Office Machines. He later worked in sales for CBI Copy Products, Pitney-Bowes, and several other office machine supply companies. He was a longtime member of the Optimist Club, served on the Mechanical Board for the City of Portage, and was a member of the OOMA club. Jim spent much of his time in his later years caring for Rosemarie in spite of his own health problems. He enjoyed spending time with his family, was a lifelong fan of the Cubs and Bears, and was a master of grilling. Family will greet friends on Monday, November 7th from noon - 2:00 o'clock at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 East Centre Ave. where services will begin at 2:00 o'clock. A private interment will take place at Ft. Custer National Cemetery at a later date.
