James O. Stewart

STEWART, James O. Portage Passed away April 15, 2007 in Kalamazoo. He was born October 16, 1929 in Kalamazoo, the son of Oscar Doyle and Lydia Viola Hose Stewart and had been a resident of the area for many years. He loved his family, fishing, and talking on his ham radio, having talked to almost every country in the world. He was associated with the electrical field in many areas, and was to receive his 60 year membership pin from the IBEW, local 131 this year. During his career, he worked in all areas of the business, including working for and being a member of the NECA as a field representative and then a branch manager. Jim loved to travel and tell jokes as he enjoyed good humor. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Esther. He is survived by his brother, Robert P. Sandra Stewart of Portage; his children, James E. Marian Stewart of Kalamazoo, Carol S. Neil Segerdahl of Kalamazoo, and Gregory A. Stewart of Grand Junction; his former wife and mother of his children Dena Stewart of Kalamazoo; step-daughters, Amy Rosa of Battle Creek and Marsha Robert Weiss of Charlotte, MI; grandchildren, Sarah Steve Thurston, Brooke Segerdahl and Mary Segerdahl; a step-granddaughter, Heather Knechtel; great grandchildren, Steven, Andrew, Kathryn and Benjamin Thurston and Isabelle Segerdahl; step-great grandchildren, Kaurynn and Kendall Knechtel; and a special friend, Marsha Miller of Battle Creek. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Thursday in the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. with Pastor Greg L. Stewart officiating. Entombment will follow at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM.
