Kalamazoo Joined his loved ones in heaven on August 1, 2013 at age 86. James was born October 13, 1926 in Kalamazoo to the late John and Nellie Vanderlay Knapper and at age 17 was adopted by his late stepfather, Peter Poolman. He was united in marriage to Martha Cronkhite on June 30, 1978 in Kalamazoo. James was a member of Parchment United Methodist Church and a life member of Portage Masonic Lodge #340, Saladin Shrine and Scottish Rite. James served in the U.S. Army from January of 1946 until honorably discharged in July of 1947. He was employed with The Upjohn Company from where he retired after 35 years. James is survived by his wife, Martha Poolman of Kalamazoo; children, Rodney Iletha Poolman of Marcellus, MI and Robin Glomski of Kalamazoo; 3 grandchildren, Dallas Poolman of Indianapolis, IN, Derek Elicia Poolman of Scotts, MI and Jared Glomski of Elkhart, IN; 1 great granddaughter; half-brother, Tammo Froukje Knapper of Vroomshoop, the Netherlands; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will take place Thursday, Aug 8, 2013 at 11:00 am at Parchment United Methodist Church, 225 Glendale Blvd., Parchment, MI 49004. Visitation with the family will be held beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Following a luncheon at the church, interment will take place at Ft. Custer National Cemetery at 2:30pm with military honors. Pastor Mike Tupper will officiate. Arrangements by the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. Memorials may be directed to Shrine Hospitals for Crippled Children or the Parchment United Methodist Church. **ATTENTION MASONS: Brethen of Portage-Brady Lodge #340, your presence is requested at the memorial service of our brother, James Poolman, 10:00 a.m., Thursday at Parchment United Methodist Church.
