Kalamazoo Mr. LaRose passed away November 25, 2007 at The Laurels of Galesburg. He was born January 30, 1915 in Elk Point, Alberta, Canada, one of 5 children to the late John and Fanny Gall LaRose. Jim worked for Clark Equipment Company in Battle Creek for 27 years, until his retirement at the age of 58. On June 28, 1941, Jim was united in marriage to Virginia ?Ginny? M. Gumtow. He always enjoyed boats, motorcycles, and cars. Jim became a commodore of the Gull Lake Ice Yacht Club in the early 1940?s. He had a couple of sail boats, ice boats, and loved his inboard wooden hulled boats. Jim was also a 3rd Degree Mason of the Hickory Corners, F. & A.M. Hickory Lodge #345. Surviving are three children Sandra Bernard Sikkema of Augusta, John Jane LaRose of Kalamazoo, and Philip Dawn LaRose of Indian River; 7 grandchildren, Joseph and William Sikkema, Mike and Scott LaRose, Mary Jo Skillman, and Holly and Chad LaRose; 27 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Eva Wart and Martha Cole; 5 step-grandchildren, Lorrie Fisher, Sherry Parker, Todd Remeur, Mark Remeur, Matt Remeur; and several step-great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death are his wife, Ginny, on March 6, 2000; his parents; 1 grandson, Jeffery LaRose, and 2 sisters, Ella Ahrnes, and Ethel Nicely. Memorial services for Mr. LaRose will be at 3:00 PM on Saturday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick Street, with Rev. Mona Joslyn officiating. Interment will be in Prairie Home Cemetery, Richland. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
